Compendium of Curriosities II - Challenge 3

This is my 3rd challenge entry at StudioL3 .  This one is called Marbled Stains to be found on page 46 of Compendium of Curiosities II, here is where you can purchase your autographed copy if you too would like to play along.  You may win a prize from Eclectic Papiere

I marbled the background, stamped the leaves with various green/blue distress inks, embossed with my big kick, stamped a couple of dragon flies & words, the 3 humming birds were crackled & stained along with the flower.

Faux Patina

I really struggled with this one but I'm so determined to do all of the 35 challenges.  I'm not thrilled with this tag but I've done lots worse.

Challenge 1 - Tim Holtz Vol II

My book arrived yesterday so finally I could post my first challenge using the technique on page 66.  I'd been reading other blogs and figured it had something to do with creating custom foam stamps, so I was practicing waiting for my book to arrive and this is what I came up with.

I used the bird from the Urban Tapestry set for my foam stamp along with various Distress Inks.

Trust Your Crazy Ideas

I took the CC101 class with Tim Holtz as the instructor thinking I had not one Tim stamp, well I found out I did have one I bought about 5 years ago.  I only found out yesterday it was a Tim Holtz stamp when looking to see who made it. "Trust your crazy ideas" is my Tim stamp used along with his Urban Tapestry set.  After sponging & stamping with  various distress inks, I sprayed a little gold Perfect Pearls

Bird on a Branch

CC101 ended a few weeks ago now but I just can't stop playing with my distress inks, too fun & too many techniques.

I did this one using Urban Tapestry stamps, a gorgeous set too.  I ran wax paper through an embossing folder with my big kick, then ironed the wax paper sandwiched between 2 pieces of cs.  I then sponged various blue distress inks, sponging a little brown around the edges.

Attitude

I got this idea from Gina K at Stamp TV.  I ran a piece of waxed paper in an embossing folder through my big kick, then sandwiched the wax paper between 2 pieces of  Pure Luxury cs & Ironed them.  The wax paper acts as a resist, I then sponged various distress inks to the cs.  I could see the details of the embossing folder so decided to emboss again using the same folder, then went around the edges with a light brown.  The little lady is from KK Originals, had her for years now, one of my favs.

Coloring Glitter with Copics

I received this card from a good friend of mine & I was so loving it I had to give this technique a try too.

Here is my first attempt, I stamped the butterfly on sticky back acetate, sprinkled liberally with glitter, then rubbed it with my finger making it smooth, stamped the butterfly coloring with my Copics.  I did have to go over the stamped image with a marker as the lines were disappearing.  I adhered the acetate to my oval, added a little glossy accents, that's it.









This was my second attempt, I think I like doing this technique best with the stickers and it sure is a fun one even with the glitter flying everywhere.

A Few Distress Cards

These 3 cards are what I"ve done with some of my "home work" assignments from the Creative Chemistry 101.  I was working large label size, then cut them down to card size.

I'm still waiting for my order of Distress Markers, 2 months now, & more stains, I only have 4 & more inks.

This first one was done with Distress Stains including Picket Fence.  I inked up the background stamp with Picket Fence then the female was stamped using Versafine Archival.

I'll admit to my faux pas, I stamped the woman before I stamped the white words so then the words were all over her, so I stamped her a second time doing pretty good I think.

For this one I inked the 2 3/4  x 5 1/2 cs with distress ink, then flicked, rubbed some embossing powder off before heating, embossed the entire piece going over it with a sponge & a brown Distress ink.  I stamped using Stazon white, & black inks.

I don't usually do tags but I do have a tag stamp.  This was done putting various distress inks to cs, then flicking some perfect pearls on top & brushing them around.

Using Distress Inks

This was using Distress Stains and; the new Picket Fence (white), I had so much fun doing these ones, what a difference knowing what the products are for.  I only have 4 different colors till my order arrives that is.

Now I'm off to Day 6, I get to learn all about Distress Markers while still waiting for mine to arrive.  On the positive side this means now homework for me today.........dang

Watercolor with Distress Inks

Homework for day 4, water coloring with Distress inks & brushes.  This is my fav of the week so far.  I've made few tags in my life of stamping, so I'm cutting my own, just not a tag fan but I just may change who knows, they are fun.

Archival Resist & Alcohol Agates

Day 3 homework was to practice with alcohol ink agates & resist stamping with Archival ink, on the right.

  I only have black Archival, used my Ancient Page as a resist that I've had for years, worked like a charm.

Not only am I learning so much but I'm dragging out my old supplies & actually using them.  I've no Tim stamps so I'm using little used stamps that I've had for years, another plus in this course, really making me think.

Chemistry 101 with Tim Holtz

 I'm taking Chemistry 101 online classes with Tim Holtz, it started this week with one more week to go, I'm having way too much fun discovering how all these products work, especially distress inks & products.  I've never been a Tim "fan", bought the inks because I liked the colors, I don't own any of his stamps, saw 1 or 2 utube videos but I now know why the man is so popular.  He is so very creative at what he does & one fantastic teacher with I'm assuming a ton or 2 of patience.

This was homework for day 2, flicking(droplets of water), watercolor stamping, and wrinkle free distress.

I made up this card rather quickly to send to a male person needing some cheering up, I kind of like it too.

I couldn't resist this cute little digi, it came from D2D, that's all the info I have for now.  I sure did have fun coloring this one.

Blue Lattice

Flower Fairy on Pot

This card has a story, I forgot to add the blue layer on top of the yellow but hadn't quite realized it yet.  I couldn't figure why it wasn't looking right as I'd laid it all out previous to gluing.  So I kept adding till I couldn't add any more, went to walk away, saw my piece of blue layer.  I've had this blue oval hanging around for a couple of weeks now, well it has a new home just as soon as I glue it down.  I did have fun with this.

Lattice Cards

 A good friend of mine shared a link with me the other day about lattice cards on utube, well that was what I sat watching for the rest of my day.  Today, finally 3 days later I got the time  to sit and make a couple, too fun.

Ok, I have to try the basket one in a lighter color, this is looking a tad dark, when closed it's  better with the beige insert showing through.

 I like this look better with contrast showing through the basket.

I'm kind of happy with the blue one, this was my very first, not too shabby for having a dropsy kind of day, yes every little thing I touched hit the floor more than once.  I'd call that my exercise for the day.

Santa's Power Nap

I kind of rushed this one to get it in for the challenge at Phindy's Place Blog, the challenge is piece stamping.  My first time doing a digi piece stamp & it was fun.   Here is the link to Phindy's store she has lots of fantastic digis.

I printed the chair on green & embossed with my cuttlebug, his pants are pieced as well as his hat, colored with my Copics, some glossy accents & glitter.

 When I saw this little girl sipping her hot chocolate at Phindy's I just had to add her to my collection of digis from Phindy, she is just too adorable.

 Another Phindy Digi, this winter house with the little girl in the bottom are both from Phindy.  I love coloring her artwork, it is so well done.
